Fun and Simple Spanish Phrases

Here is a list of simple Spanish phrases that you can add to your vocabulary today - even if the only Spanish words you know are taco and enchilada!

  • ¡Qué amable! This phrase means “how kind!” It pairs well with gracias to say “thank you, that’s so kind!” Next time your eat at a Mexican restaurant, you can say to your waiter: ¡Qué amable, gracias! or ¡Gracias, qué amable!

  • ¡Qué lío! This is a good phrase for frustrating situations. It means “what a hassle!” or “what a mess!” Maybe there’s a lot of traffic, or you spill some food on your shirt… you can say “ayyy, ¡qué lío!”

  • Phrases relating to food:

    • ¡Buen provecho! Say this phrase any time you are eating with others or around people who are eating to wish them to enjoy their meal.

    • ¡Qué rico! This one is pretty self-explanatory: it means “how delicious!”

    • Para chuparse los dedos: This is a fun one. It means “finger-lickin’ good!” Or literally, “to lick the fingers.”
